We’ve had many celebrations this month. We celebrated Presidents’ Day on Monday. Today was a Two-rific Day to be in 2nd Grade celebrating Twosday (2/22/22)!
ACADEMICS
Reading: We are learning to use what we know from phonics (blends, digraphs, trigraphs, and vowel teams) to help us decode words. In addition, we are using sight words to help us with our fluency.
Phonics: We are learning about the hard and soft c and g. We are also learning about soft c and g with silent e at the end of words.
Spelling: Please check your student’s planner for their sort. Spelling tests will be on Monday.
Math: We are learning about polygons and quadrangles.
Writing: Nonfiction Writing – We are revising and editing our writing. Many have started writing their second nonfiction book.
Religion: We will be reviewing what we have learned about Jesus giving us the gift of peace through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We will be taking the Unit 3 test on Thursday.
Social Studies: We continue learning how to compare and contrast our daily lives with the daily lives of of our relatives. Please check your child’s homework folder for the Social Studies assignment.
Science: We will be learning about flash floods and where they occur.
Art: We have our first directed drawing art lesson this week with Miss Sofer!!!!

HOMEWORK
Fluency – Please read the fluency passage and answer the questions on the back. This should be completed over the course of 4 days.
Reading log – Please read 20 minutes daily with a minimum of 100 minutes read for the week. Please write the book titles and the minutes read.
Math IXL – none this week
Social Studies – Interview a grandparent/relative and complete the questionnaire and graphic organizer comparing and contrasting both lives. Please check your child’s homework folder for the papers. This assignment is due Friday, March 4.
