We look forward to joining in the celebration of our second grade friends as they receive their First Holy Communion this weekend!
ACADEMICS
Reading: We continue working on literary language noticing the way authors use language in special ways through comparisons, idioms, alliteration, time-passing words, and repetition. As readers, we need to figure out what the playful language means and why the author uses it.
Phonics: We continue building words by noticing that there are different ways to spell words with the Long A. We are paying close attention to where we hear the Long A sound in the word to help us figure out which Long A spelling to use: ai, a_e, a, or ay.
Spelling: Please check your student’s planner for their sort. Spelling tests will be on Monday. Some students may spend two weeks on a sort.
Math: We are learning how to use math diagrams to help us solve mixed addition and subtraction number stories. We are also learning different subtraction strategies when subtracting multidigit numbers: counting up, counting back, money, and manipulatives.
Writing: We are learning how to write letters about our favorite books. We are writing our opinions and providing examples to support our opinions.
Religion: We continue to learn about the different parts of Mass as we prepare for First Holy Communion this coming Saturday. We are learning how to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus.
Social Studies: none this week
Science: We will be learning why we wear clothes. As part of the activity, we will be engineering hats to protect them from the sun.
