Middle School students are participating in a Citizen Science Project. Cornell Lab of Ornithology in engaging students in the study of real-world science. Their Celebrate Urban Birds project focuses on learning more about 16 key species across North America. We’ve narrowed our focus even further – to species found in our local area and we are focusing on 4 species of birds and 8 species of hummingbirds.

We track the selected species for 10 minutes at a time, 3 times a month in a small area – we’re focusing on the area behind Biedermann Hall.

We had our first outings this past week and have recorded our observations on our tally sheets. We will submit our results online each month!
