Week of November 19th
Dear Second Grade Families,
Our week is a short one with Thanksgiving activities and lessons. We decorated feathers for our school turkey this past week to have it ready to be part of the entrance procession for 8:30 Mass on Wednesday. Please join us if your schedule allows.

Wednesday: All our welcome to attend Mass at 8:30 a.m. Noon dismissal on Wednesday.
No library this week
Donate a Bear on “Teddy Bear Day” for Adopt-a-Family on December 3rd (If you are out and about shopping this holiday vacation, remember Teddy Bear Day is coming on Monday, December 3rd.)
Academic Overview:
Student of the Week: Jomari will choose our new Student of the Week on Tuesday.
Homework: This week I will send homework in your child’s homework folder. There is only two reading log entries and chapter review for math. Homework is due on Wednesday.
Religion: Thank you, God. Review the 4th-10th commandments. We will write a Thanksgiving Prayer.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Reading: We will finish “ A Trip to the Firehouse.” Our focus is identifying the main ideas and details. We will continue reviewing syllables, ABC order, vowel pairs (ai, ay), compound words, and reviewing digraphs (sh, th, wh, ch, tch).
Two weeks ago, we started our classroom read aloud, “The Boxcar Children”. The kids are so involved in the story. We are working on vocabulary and comprehension. I have noticed a few Reading Log entries with “The Boxcar Children.” I hope to see more chapter books in the students reading logs.
Spelling: More in class review of last weeks spelling words. We will have our spelling test on Tuesday for Unit 11. We will begin chapter 13 when we return from our Thanksgiving vacation.
MATH: We will have our math test to end our chapter. I will send home a chapter review workbook page for homework so you may review the problems before the math test on Wednesday. We will begin Chapter 5: Two Digit Addition, which includes mental math (add tens) and adding without regrouping.
SOCIAL STUDIES: ABC’s of the First Thanksgiving (Reader’s Theatre)
Enjoy this Thanksgiving with your family and friends! This Thanksgiving I give thanks for having such a great group of caring students and parents! I will keep all of you in my prayers during this holiday.
