We return to our normal schedule this week, as we have completed ITBS testing! Fourth graders did a great job dealing with the testing and the heat over the last two weeks! Now if it would just cool down…
Last week I launched a new activity, Daily Five. At this point we are Reading to Self, building stamina as we go along. We will be adding other Daily 5 activities as we progress.
This week we returned to Writer’s Workshop activities. Fourth graders are beginning work on a personal narrative: a realistic piece of fiction, which features believable characters in believable situations. All work on these stories will be done in class.
For homework this week, we will be completing Reading Logs, and students should complete ixL Math skills A1-3. Both of these assignments are due next Monday.
Your child’s progress report goes home tomorrow. Please review it, sign it, and send it back to school by this coming Friday, October 10th. Work packets also go home tomorrow!
Many students still do not have markers; I discourage sharing of materials (a matter of justice, really), so please purchase a set of washable markers, to be used by your child here in class.
This week in Vocabulary we continue our study of unit 4 words. The test will be on Friday, with a practice quiz on Thursday.
We have arrived at our first review unit in Spelling, unit 6. We will complete pages 48-53 in class, and there will be a review test next Tuesday.
In Grammar we continue our study of nouns, which is unit two.
In Math we continue chapter two. We will be working on data collection and analysis, as well as addition, using two methods: partial-sum and column addition.
In Religion we will have a quiz on Chapter 6 on Tuesday. We continue our discussion of God as One who is worthy of our worship and adoration, and how we can show this.
In Social Studies we are learning about weather and climate in various parts of our state (lesson 4) and about the natural resources of California. We will have a test on this first chapter next week.
Our Science adventures continue as we move into the next unit, focusing upon Interactions of Living Things. We will have a final look at our “Water Worlds” and summarize that lab.
Reading groups continue in their chapter books: reading, discussing, and writing summaries. Most of the groups are done or almost done with their first reading selection.
Have a great week!
