We have been working very hard in fourth grade, and this is reflected in your child’s progress report, which will be coming home tomorrow. Please review it, sign it and send it back to school by Friday if possible.
What we are working on this week:
Religion: We continue learning how to follow Jesus’ example as we strive to be more holy. We will have a quiz on Chapter 5 on Tuesday.
Math: Students should complete ixL Math skills B1, B3 and B6 by next Monday. In class we will be working on subtraction of multi-digit numbers, using the partial-differences method as well as the trade-first method (the traditional algorithm). There will be a unit test next week.
Spelling: This week we are working on Unit 7. The book pages should be done by Friday, and we will have the test on Friday.
Grammar: We will be discussing fragments and run-on sentences, and continue our review in preparation for the test on Unit One. The first part of the test will be done on Thursday: kinds of sentences, complete subjects and predicates, simple subjects and predicates. The second part of the test will be next Monday: compound sentences, complex sentences, correcting fragments and run-on sentences.
Writing Workshop: We have started writing scenes for our realistic fiction selection, using the story arcs we created.
Vocabulary: We begin our study of Unit 7 words; the test will be next week.
Reading: Fluency homework #6 should be completed by next Monday. Students should answer the seven questions and also write a short summary. Reading Logs will be due next Monday as well. Social Studies: We begin issue three, learning about water, California’s “Liquid Gold”.
Science: We continue our study of ecosystems, focusing upon water ecosystems.
