This Wednesday is a free dress day ($1 donation). We will be going to Olivas Adobe on Thursday, March 1st. Students should wear school sweatshirts or jackets, as we will be outside the entire morning. If possible, send your child to school with an old towel. Please return the permission form and payment by Wednesday. We will be going to Stations of the Cross on Thursday at 2 p.m. You are most welcome to join us if you can!
THE WEEK AHEAD:
HOMEWORK (due next Monday): Students will be working on the following ixL skills: Math A 12 and D 14, and Language F 3. We are doing fluency #24, and students should be reading for 20-30 minutes per night. Students should complete the Math Boxes on page 129 by Friday.
DAILY WORK
Religion: If you haven’t sent in matches for your Lenten art project, please do so as soon as possible. This week we begin talking about the fourth commandment.
Math: We continue work on Unit 5, with two-digit multiplication and scientific notation being the focus. We continue to drill on basic multiplication facts as well.
Reading Workshop: We are reading biographies for this mini-unit. The goal is to learn about the subject’s characteristics and significant events in his/her life, as well as learning about the time period in which they lived. Students should be jotting as they read.
Writing Workshop: We have begun writing rough drafts of our personal essays.
Spelling: We are working on Unit 23; the test will be on Friday.
Vocabulary: We continue our work on unit 11, but we will wait until next week to take the test.
Grammar: This week we continue our study of adjectives.
Science: We continue our study of earthquakes and volcanoes.
Social Studies: We are now learning about the Mexican War for independence and how that impacted life in California. Students should be gathering information for their mission posters; we will be working on these in class, in preparation for the School Fair, to be held on March 14th.
