Welcome back! We have much going on this week: we are practicing for the Intermediate Music program on May 10th, and the Speech Contest finals will be held this Wednesday afternoon. We wish the best for our five finalists: Nathaniel, Maya, Loren, Mikaella, and Gianna. If for some reason your child cannot participate in the music program on the evening of May 10th, please let me know via email.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
Religion: We reflect upon the season of Easter and continue discussing the seventh and tenth commandments.
Math: We begin Unit 7, focusing on fractions. Students are to complete ixL skills P 1, 2 and 3 by next Monday.
Reading Workshop: Students are to be reading 20-30 minutes each evening; please sign the reading log for any reading done at home. Click here for a copy of the log. new reading log This week we will begin our final unit, Reading Historical Fiction. Students will be able to select books from the classroom collection and from our school library.
Writer’s Workshop: We continue working on our “books” this week; we will be writing the second chapter, which is on the narrower, more focused topic we have chosen to write about.
Reading Fluency: We will be doing fluency #31 this week; it is due next Monday.
Spelling: We are working on the words in Unit 29; the test will be on Friday.
Vocabulary: We have started unit 16; students have “flash cards” to use as they learn these new words. The test will be next Thursday
Grammar: We continue learning about adjective forms.
Social Studies: We are moving on to magazine #19, learning about the Bear Flag Revolt.
Science: We continue learning about major forces of the earth, such as earthquakes, volcanoes, and landslides.
