Dear Kindergarten Parents,
Our field trip was great. We are continuing to discuss eating healthy and following with an activity this week. By using food ads we are categorizing fruits and vegetables into four areas by color of food and how it keeps us healthy. Ask your children – they know what color food helps keep the brain, heart, eyes and immune system healthy!
They also know which foods should be eaten “always” and foods just for “sometimes”. This is a great lesson for building healthy minds and bodies. Please consider healthy foods for snack and lunch on an “always” basis. Another thing to mention, many of the hot lunch foods are not being eaten. Take a minute to ask your child whether they are eating their hot lunch.
Today we will have the outreach program, Ladybug and her Creepy Crawly Friends. Payment envelopes will come home Friday, cost is $2.50.
“Read Across America” is celebrated on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, which is this Friday. It is a full day of school, we will have a book exchange with the primary grades. If you have lightly used books to exchange, bring it to class. Children who do not bring books will not be able to choose a book in the exchange activity Friday afternoon. Read flyer coming home today.
Our week will be focused on Lent, our SLE’s, our land-form paper mache project, writing about the animals that inhabit the geographical areas of the land, sea, and fresh water.
Math Chapter 5 is coming to the end, as we look forward to Chapter 6 consisting of calendar, days, weeks, months, and reading time to the hour. Word families and sight words are being used for sentence building. As we write sentences with spaces between words, we are reading and checking for correct sentence structure. Your children are being exposed to all of the short vowels, knowing that every word must have a vowel. Our main focus is on /a/ and /i/. Continue read with your child each night and record on Book-it form. March is the last month for Book-it.
March calender sign – ups will be emailed on Tuesday.
Have a nice week!
Mrs. Carol Brown
