Dear Parents, May 16, 2011
What an exciting week – the Spring Musical (performed by 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders), Primary Centers, and our FIELD TRIP!
We have finished theme 9 in our reading series and are anxious to start our last theme for the year, however with Primary Centers and our field trip this week, we will not start a new theme but will concentrate on improving our writing. In centers this week, we will focus on using describing words “to paint a picture” and challenge ourselves to create a five sentence paragraph.
We are reviewing for our chapter test in math today. Please check your child’s homework tonight and make sure that they understand the concepts in counting money as our test is tomorrow. Children usually enjoy the next chapter in math – geometry, fractions, and probability. This chapter deals with understanding, both plane and solid shapes, symmetry, equal parts, fractions, and probability.
In religion, we continue honoring our Blessed Mother and learning how we can bring peace to the world.
In social studies, we are finishing up our book of American symbols today and will be introduced to the next chapter – My World Near and Far, in anticipation of our field trip.
Please return the permission slip and money for our field trip as soon as possible. The children are to wear jeans or shorts and their SHS school polo shirt and school sweatshirt. Children need to bring a sack lunch (no lunchboxes). We will have a snack provided by our room mothers as well as, a small mesh backpack to hold our needed supplies. THANK YOU!!
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a great week,
Mrs. Manning
