Hello Second Grade Parents,
Happy Halloween!!! To mark the occasion, this Wednesday will be a free dress day. Of course, students are welcome to get into the spirit with Halloween themed dress but please, no costumes. Between now and Wednesday, temporary tattoos remain on sale for $1 each. Students may purchase as many as they’d like, with up to two being applied on Wednesday and the rest going home. All proceeds will go directly to the Adopt-a-Family program.
In class…
Math: We continue to slowly make our way through Unit 3: Place Value, Time and Money. Last week we focused entirely on telling time and counting money. This week we will explore these some more before we move on to interpreting data.
For IXL Homework, please complete the following skills:
Q.2 Match analog clocks and times
P.7 Exchanging money
P.8 Comparing groups of coins
Reading: This week our focus will be on completing Unit 1 while getting as much time as possible in our guided reading groups. Student grouping is based on either guided reading level or, more commonly, a shared need to work on a specific skill which is reinforced in the group discussions.
With Halloween +the Saint’s Parade, our homework load will be slightly reduced this week. We will still have fluency, but no reading log. Instead, cozy up with a good book and read at your leisure.
Writer’s Workshop: Just like reading, we are wrapping up Unit 1 this week as well! Students are very focused on publishing right now, learning the parts of a book as they make their own. Of course there’s nothing like seeing the whole arc of the writing process to motivate students to write some more, so many students have already moved toward taking new pieces through the process.
Word Work: New sorts were up and running on Monday. Due to the Saints Parade, our test will be moved from Friday to next Monday.
Religion: I hope everyone is getting their costumes ready for Friday’s Saints Parade. We look forward to meeting all in the church for 8:30 mass. As a reminder, the first several pews will be reserved for your little saints. Students should bring their uniforms to change into after the parade as well.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
