Hello Third Grade Families,
Happy Halloween!!! I hope everyone was able to enjoy the evening among friends. Tuesday morning we will also celebrate All Saints Day with mass in the morning.
Also this week…
Math: The class will continue to explore measurement of perimeter and area as we wrap up Unit 3. We will have a test on Thursday.
For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Third Grade Skills…
BB.8 Compare and Convert Customary Units of Length
BB.17 Compare and Convert Metric Units of Length
NOTE: Don’t be afraid to create and work from a cheat sheet for this. We have been working on conversions in class, but many students have been using a chart for reference. For example (12 inches = 1 foot, 3 feet = 1 yard, 100 cm = 1 m, 10 mm = 1 cm, etc.)
Reading: Now that we’ve closed the book on Unit 1, the class will now take some time to focus on the fundamentals of non-fiction reading with a short introduction on “Becoming Experts.” As you read each evening, please try to vary your reading materials so that students are reading more non-fiction at home. This will allow all to take those skills taught in class and begin to apply them outside as well.
Word Work: New words went home on Monday. Our next spelling test is scheduled for Monday morning.
Writer’s Workshop: This week is all about becoming one’s own job captain, as writers begin to work with greater independence. The class will learn all about the cycle of revision and drafting again.
Science: The class will welcome the RAYS program Thursday afternoon for a special in-house science lab field trip!
Social Studies: Just as we turn the corner toward Thanksgiving, we begin our unit on the Chumash people!!!
Religion: This week we continue Chapter 4: God Called Mary. As a reminder, parents are welcome to join us in church both Tuesday morning for All Saints Day and Friday morning for the Saints Parade.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
