Dear Third Grade Parents and Families,
Since this week marks the end of Trimester 1, I will be offering some extra credit in math to those students who feel they need it. This is optional. However, should you decide to take advantage of this opportunity you will receive 10 points added to your lowest test score (a large amount considering each math test was only worth 25 points and math tests make up 33% of your total math grade). I highly recommend it. Although it is some work, you are certain to learn a lot and raise your grade in the process.
On Wednesday, we will be taking our first field trip of the year to the Ty Warner Sea Center in Santa Barbara. In addition to myself, there will be two other chaperones accompanying us: Mrs. Peterson & Sarah Evans of the EDC program.
Our plan is to leave SHS at 8:30 in order to make a 9:45 arrival. Our program starts at 10:00 but the Sea Center requests that we arrive 15 minutes early. From 10-11:00 we will tour the Center. Then, from 11-12:00 we will take part in an “Outdoor Exploration” aligned with the third grade science standards. At noon, we will walk across the street to the park where we will eat lunch. We plan to leave Santa Barbara at 1:30 in order to make it back to SHS by 2:30.
Michelle Salomon will be using some of our “party fund” money in order to buy snacks for the kids so that we can have a bite at our usual snack time without having to take out our lunchboxes, etc. Therefore, no need to pack a snack. However, remember to a lunch.
Although this is a scheduled free dress day, we will be wearing uniforms. This allows us easily identify each other as a group while out and about.
This Thursday we will have an assembly at 11:00 and Friday morning we will meet as “families” at recess to enjoy a snack together.
Looking forward to a great week!
