Hello 3rd Grade Families,
Teddy Bear (and Cereal) Day is fast approaching! Be sure to pick up a new stuffed animal to send to children whose families are part of the LA Archdiocese Adopt-a-Family program. This year, we are also asking families to donate boxes of cereal for these needy families. Feel free to bring both in before December 9th. We are happy to store these in the classroom as a visual reminder to all of those who plan to participate.
This is the final week of Trimester 1. We are one-third the way through the school year.
This week in class…
Math: Unit 4 — This week we move from multiplication concepts to beginning division. The students are enjoying working with counters and various other manipulatives in order to combine and separate equal groups.
For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Skills…
I.1 Divide by Counting Equal Groups
I.2 Write Division Sentences for Equal Groups
E.3 Write Multiplication Sentences for Equal Groups
Reading: Our reading focus continues to be vocabulary development. This week: Use Dictionaries, Thesauruses and Glossaries as Tools. Click here for the corresponding Parent Pipeline. Take some time this week to help your child use guide words in order to find words faster and easier in the dictionary when needed. At last, our practice of putting words into alphabetical order is coming to use!

Word Work: Our next spelling test is schedule for next TUESDAY. All sorts this week are especially challenging. Use the extra time to practice and study.
Vocabulary: We will continue Unit 5 this week. The quiz will be next Tuesday.
Grammar: We will continue with Unit 2, taking some more time to practice Lesson 14: Possessive Nouns. This one is a challenge so I would encourage all to take some time this week and practice when to put the apostrophe before and after the letter s. Also, review when not to use an apostrophe at all (hint: plural nouns).
Science: New unit time…Introducing states of matter.
Social Studies: All about Thanksgiving!
Religion: The class will continue with Chapter 9 — God is Just and Merciful.
All the Best,
Ms. Espinosa
