Hello Third Grade Families!

This week we will continue our many new units and chapters with…

Math: We will continue Unit 5: Place Value in Whole Numbers and Decimals. We will spend this week as we did last, focusing on very large numbers. The class will cover lessons 5.5-5.7.

As always, see the Home Links at www.everydaymathonline.com for extra practice with skills learned in class. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

For IXL this week, students are to complete the following third grade skills:

B.4 Identify the digit with a particular place value

B.1 Place Value Models

H.10 Divide by 10

Math facts testing begins week and will continue until each student meets every goal. Below is a copy of the 8 individual multiplication and division goals. Students should be studying their specific goal at home for no more than 10-15 minutes or so every night. In doing so, remember to reinforce the relationship between multiplication and division. Vocabulary: This week we will finish Unit 9. Our next vocabulary quiz will be this Friday.

Reading: Please be sure to order and send in your child’s Unit 3 reading book(s) as soon as possible. The students are scheduled to begin them in small groups next week.

Grammar: The class will focus on linking verbs and helping verb in lessons 20 & 21.

Science: Chapter 4 continues as we learn all about the solar system. This week we will focus on the difference between the inner and outer planets. Check your e-mail inbox for directions for this year’s School Fair project!

Social Studies: Last week we learned all about Chumash legends. This week we will continue our study of Native American culture with a study of Chumash art.

Religion: We will continue Chapter 8: God is Holy and Great!
