Hello Second Grade Families,
Happy December! Now we’re really getting into the holiday spirit!
This week and last, the students have been preparing for the upcoming Christmas program (mark your calendars for the evening of Tuesday, December 18th with a showtime of 6:00). Scripts will be sent home today so that your child may practice his/her line(s). More details to come as we get closer.
We will enjoy Teddy Bear Day tomorrow morning with Fr. Terry, so please remember to bring in a new stuffed toy to be donated to the LA Archdiocese Adopt-a-Family Program.
The Girl Scouts are also collecting used jackets and coats to be donated to local children. If you find a moment to go through the closet, I would encourage all to place one in the red bin in front of the office any time between now and Decemeber 13th.
Monday, December 10th also marks the beginning of our annual food drive. Please begin setting aside any non-perishable food that you would like to share with a local family in need.
In class, we will be working on a special Christmas gift for our families. No peeking!
Math: This week is all about estimating. We will begin by estimating costs and end with a shopping activity. In between, we will work in small groups to explore length, area and attributes.
For IXL Homework, please complete the following skills:
S.2 Measure using an inch ruler
P.5 Count Money up to $5
P. 15 Do you have enough money ~ up to $1.
Word Work: Spelling words are up and ready on spellingcity.com. Our next text is scheduled for Friday.
Readers’ Workshop: This week we will move into the second bend of our unit on non-fiction reading, “Learning the lingo of a topic.” We will focus on noticing when and where books change to teach something new about a topic as well as saying and understanding key words. This week and last we have been reading as many non-fiction texts as we can get our hands on, and I would highly encourage continuing this thread at home by using non-fiction reading for your reading log minutes.
Science: The class will continue with our unit on forces and motion with Chapter 6: Forces. This week is all about pushes and pulls, learning all about hos forces change the motion of a object.
Religion: We will wrap up Unit 10: Jesus Leads us to his Peace before taking a break for a couple of days to focus on the start of Advent!
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
