Hello Third Grade Families,

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. A special thank you is in order for our spectacular room moms for putting together a fantastic class Christmas party.

This week we’ll be studying the following:

Math: This week the class will begin Unit 5 (Place Value) covering lessons 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4. Feel free to follow along with us at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

Please remember to begin practicing those multiplication and division Goals starting with #1 (the 10s facts). Individual student testing will begin next week. If your child is confident with Goal 1, feel free to start practicing Goal 2 as well.

B.4 Identify the digit with a particular place value

G.1 Division facts to 5

Reading: The class will be working on a comparative Allan Say unit studying themes and images in both his writing and art.  By now, your child should have brought in both Tea With Milk and Emma’s Rug.

English: The class will begin Unit 3 in our grammar book. This week we will cover lessons 15 (Action Verbs) and 16 (Present Tense Verbs). Students are encouraged to study along using the Grammar Workshop series online.

Vocabulary: This week we begin Unit 9.

Science: We will begin Chapter 9: Light! With a lab on shadows.

Social Studies: The Spanish are Coming! This week we will learn about the interaction between settlers and California’s Native American populations.
