Dear Third Grade Families,
We have a busy week ahead of us. Friday, March 1st is “Read Across America”. At this time we will be celebrating reading! It also coincides with Dr. Seuss’s birthday, so many related activities will be taking place including time with our school wide “families”!
Math: We continue with Chapter 9 (division) with plans to finish this week. Plan for a test on Friday. In addition to Accelerated Math, please continue to work with your child on his/her math facts every evening. It is part of the nightly homework. Attached is the Factswise goal sheet for your convenience and/or reference. Goals Sheet
Language Arts:
Spelling— Unit 22: compound words. The class will be learning spellings for a variety of compound words. Plan for our weekly spelling test on Friday morning.
Vocabulary – Planning a Trip! We will test on vocabulary this Friday as well.
Writing— Now that we’ve mapped out our paragraphs, it’s finally time to start writing. This week we will focus on the drafting stage of the writing process.
Grammar— Our work on adjectives is done for the moment. This week, we will review verbs in preparation for a study of adverbs.
Reading— We will be reading The Story of Ruby Bridges in class this week. We will study the story in its social and historical contexts. Likewise, we will focus on comprehension strategies like making inferences and story mapping using our “thinking maps.”
Religion: We will continue Chapter 9, “God is Just and Merciful.” Weekly Stations of the Cross continue at 2:00 this Wednesday. Parents and families are welcome as always.
Science: I hope everyone is continuing their School Fair projects. As a reminder, they are due March 5th. This week we will continue our study of the solar system in class as well. Likewise, we will return to the science lab!
Social Studies: This week we will begin studying the three branches of our federal government as well as the roles of each.
All the Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
