Hello Third Grade Families!
Below is a peek at this week.
Math: This week we move on from geometry and into multiplication/division facts. Unit 7’s focus is largely on student mastery of all math facts from 1×1 to 10×10 with the ultimate goal being automaticity. We will isolate those facts that students struggle most with (the 6s, 7s, and 8s) and spend the bulk of our time there.
IXL Homework: All about multiplying by 6s, 7s and 8s
G.6
G.7
G.8
Reading: We will begin the transition back to fiction with a unit on Character Studies. This first stretch will be all about getting to know a character as a friend.
Homework: Fluency + 100 minutes (minimum) read & logged.
Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Our next spelling test is scheduled for Friday.
Writing: BIG congratulations are in order for the third grade Palmisano Writing Contest finalists: Lorenzo P., Joseph, Sophia, Nicholas and Andrew. Winners will be determined soon. Until then, we will begin to move on to our next genre: “Writing to change the world.” ~ persuasive writing.
Grammar: Our grammar focus is on lessons 17 & 18 verb tenses: the present and the past.
Science: Wednesday night is the School Fair. All class projects will be featured in the Hall from 6:00-7:00pm that evening. Our class will contribute this year with an experiment on the effectiveness of hand washing. Come check it out (and prepare yourself to be grossed out)!
Religion: Happy St. Patrick’s Day! We will be in the church Wednesday afternoon for Stations of the Cross again. In class, we will be reviewing and working on the Act of Contrition.
Best,
Ms. E
