Hello Third Grade Families,
Wednesday morning we head out for our next field trip, this time to Atlas School for Farm Day! All are welcome to join. If you’d like to attend, you can either walk over with us or meet us at the school. Since we will be leaving first thing in the morning, please make an effort to be at school on time. Each student may bring a snack & something to drink in a paper bag so all is disposable. Students should wear their regular uniforms and comfortable walking shoes.
Wednesday evening is the intermediate Spring program. Plan to arrive a little before the show begins at 6:30. It promises to be a great show.
Math: We continue with Chapter 9: Multiplication and Division. This week we will focus on using the partial-products method for multiplying one digit by 2 and 3 digit numbers. We will also spend some time on factoring. If you are unsure on how to use the partial products method, see the sample on the practice page (Home Link 9.4) that will be sent home on Tuesday. I recommend going over these before attempting IXL.
IXL Homework:
H.8 Multiply 1 digit by 2 digits
H.10 Multiply 1 digit by 3 digits
S.7 Elapsed Time II
Reading: This week we will continue to learn all about reading with accuracy by using the pictures to help! Again, this skill is essential for all readers. Many non-fiction passages are supported by pictures or graphic organizers. Likewise, students should know that pictures books come in ALL levels. Click here for more on this skill.
Fluency: Click here for this week’s fluency homework.
Reading Log: Students should log in a minimum of 100 minutes of reading this week.
Word Work: Our next test will be next Wednesday. As a reminder, the goal of spelling and vocabulary is for students to apply it to their speaking and writing. Please work with your child on putting this week’s words to use by practicing putting words in context.
Science: This week is all about changing habitats through fire, flood, drought and pollution.
Social Studies: We will continue our unit on Government and Citizenship, now learning about the three branches of government.
Religion: Moving forward, the class continues Chapter 17: Jesus Christ is Lord and King.
Best,
Ms. Espinosa
