Dear Third Grade Families,
We have a long weekend coming up with a holiday on Friday as well as next Monday. Enjoy Memorial Day weekend!
Wednesday is a FREE dress day. The theme is sports!
On Thursday, we will have our last Harvest of the Month. The class will taste a variety of berries. Yum!
Our SHS food drive continues. As of today, our class has received donations from four students. Fifth grade will be delivering these on June 1st, so I encourage you to pitch in to this worthy cause sooner rather than later.
On Tuesday, we will have our second geometry quiz, this time focusing on perimeter and area as well as patterns. We will then move on to solid figures.
In science, we will be studying how environments change. We will be looking more specifically at floods, droughts and the impact of plant growth on other plants in an ecosystem.
Social studies finds us continuing our look at the three branches of the government: judicial, legislative and executive.
In language arts, we are finishing up our vocabulary for the year with a unit on giving a speech. This will be our last vocabulary set. For spelling, we will be studying words with the augh and ough patterns. These patterns make several sounds that do not often match the spelling so they can be tricky. I suggest focusing on and looking for the patterns in your daily studies. In reading we will continue to look at multi-cultural variations of the Cinderella story. We will read Yea-Shen, a Korean version.
Finally, in Religion we will continue with the Family Life series. We will also attend 8:30 mass on Thursday morning. As always, you are welcome to join should your schedules permit.
Have a great week!
Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
