Dear Third Grade Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and got plenty of rest. It was a nice taste of summer, giving us something to look forward to as we march through the last weeks of the school year.
This will be our last week of new spelling words. Unit 35 will also be our last spelling test. While next week we will do some review, there will not be spelling homework.
In math, we wrapped up Chapter 11 thus closing our study of fractions. After speaking with the fourth grade teacher on which areas of math would be best for us to cover in our final days, Mrs. Redmond asked that we work on multiplying and dividing larger numbers. Thus, we will turn our attention to Chapter 12 rather than data and probability in preparation for the challenges of fourth grade.
In language arts, we are pressing forward trying to finish our Anthology readings. We will complete “Mysteries of the Deep” early in the week and follow up with a culminating art lesson that ties in nicely with the underwater creatures theme.
In science, we will be looking at parts of Chapter 7 (Chemical Changes) focusing on elements and the period table.
For social studies, we will wrap up our study of the Chumash people focusing on their interaction with Spanish settlers.
Although summer is just around the corner, we still have two weeks remaining and a lot to accomplish.
Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
