Dear Third Grade Families,
Can you believe that we’re already in June?! Only a few more action packed weeks to go. Just this Thursday afternoon we will be enjoying the end-of-year slide show in the Hall. Don’t forget that Friday is a noon dismissal day, too.
In math we will continue our practice of double and triple digit multiplication as well as multiplying amounts of money. If your child is still learning his/her math facts, keep studying! This should be part of your nightly homework routine. Big congratulation are in order for those students who have mastered every goal. Keep reviewing those multiplication and division facts, too. Later this week, we will be moving on to long division where knowledge of these facts will pay off immensely.
In science, we are looking at the last chapter of the year: Organisms of Long Ago. We will be learning all about extinct and endangered species including dinosaurs!
Social studies finds us transitioning into the Chumash people’s way of life. We will briefly be studying these Native Americans until the end of the school year.
In Religion, we will wrap up the Family Life unit with a look at communities and the importance of taking care of one another.
Finally in language arts we will be closing up spelling with Unit 35, our last set of new words for the year. Next week will be a review week. In reading, we are studying genre conventions associated with fairy tales. For writing, we are bending those genre conventions and writing our own variations of traditional fairy tales with some creative fiction.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Espinosa
