Hello Third Grade Families,
Happy President’s Day! I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and was able to find some time to relax among family and friends.
Math: We continue forth through Unit 6: Geometry, now turning our attention toward drawing and measuring angles. The students will use their knowledge of clockwise and counter-clockwise turns (full, half and quarter turns) and apply it to drawing angles as we record the rotations. If you have time, I would encourage you to review right angles with your child. Tip: Using the corner of a piece of paper is a great way to show students how to identify them.
IXL Homework:
CC6: Angles greater than, less than and equal to right angles
Reading: This week is all about reading for significance: monitoring for significance and working to find something of interest in a non-fiction text. After all, the difference between a boring text and a fascinating one isn’t the text itself so much as the person reading it!
Homework: fluency + 100 minutes (minimum) read & logged.
Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Our spelling test is scheduled Friday.
Science: At last, it is time for us to wrap up our study of the solar system. This week we will learn all about the stars, the sun and the constellations before working on a special space theme art project. This is our last stop before moving on to our School Fair unit (which will be done entirely in class).
Religion: We begin Chapter 15: Jesus Suffered and Died for Us. The class will also begin our weekly Stations of the Cross. Of course, all are welcome to join us in the church should your schedules permit.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
