Hello Grade Families,
We are really getting into the swing of things now, working to build stamina and momentum as we begin to establish our daily classroom routines. This week we will have our first homework assignment too, slowly building each week until we reach full speed.
This year, I am pleased to announce that grades K-5 will be launching a new reading curriculum: Reader’s Workshop. Building upon our successes with the Writer’s Workshop, the basic architecture of Reader’s Workshop is the same. Students will take home weekly fluency and reading logs every Tuesday in a folder marked “My Reading Life.” I will print these out for you. Along with the logs, I will sometimes include helpful supplementary materials that mirror and support the lessons taught in class. The previous week’s completed fluency passage and Reading Log will always be due on Tuesday mornings. On that day, I will also send out new ones for the week.
IXL Math Homework will begin next week as well. Students will be expected to complete the two skills listed in the week’s newsletter. Like the Reading Log and fluency, students will have until Tuesday mornings to complete these.
All reading and math homework will begin next week.
As we get up and running, please be sure to change your child’s grade level to third before placing any hot lunch orders.
Finally, the students will begin music and P.E. classes this week. From now on, please send your child to school wearing his/her P.E. uniform on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Mark your calendars: I look forward to meeting you Wednesday evening at 6:30 for Back-to-School night!
Best,
Ms. Espinosa
