Dearest Third Grade Families,
It was a pleasure getting to meet so many of you last Wednesday for Back-to-School night. I look forward to a productive year of good times and learning. We continue to add to our planners every day. Please remember to sign it every night.
This week is a busy one! Please see below for homework and other curricular information.
Math: Unit 1 Lessons 1.5-1.8. We continue to review key content. Follow along with us at www.everydaymathonline.com. While the “Home Links” are excellent support materials, keep in mind that this is not the math homework…yet. Feel free to do these as math enrichment though as they work as EXCELLENT reinforcement of skills and concepts covered in class. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner taped to the inside cover.
For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade skills:
A. 1 Write numbers in words
A. 10 Which number is greatest/least?
C. 1 Add two numbers up to three digits
Feel free to work on the homework as your schedule permits, so long as all three skills are complete by Monday.
English/Language Arts: Our reading groups continue to take shape. Next week, the students will begin using their digital reading logs via ReadingGlue.com. Until then, I will be setting up an account for each student. Please check your e-mail as you will be receiving a short letter requiring your confirmation. This will allow you to connect with the class. As the week progresses, I will be fine tuning our accounts by adding guided reading levels and goals for the students. Feel free to explore the site before all students are required to start using it next week.
Your child also received a SpellingCity.com username and password inside the planner today. Although individual spelling lists will not go home until next week, we continue to get used to the program as we establish classroom routines. Please take some time this week to explore this site as well. You will see a lot of “Sorts”. These are the developmental lists. You will find out your child’s first sort next week when we officially begin Word Work groups.
Finally, this week we begin fluency homework.
Click here to download this week’s passage.
Click here to download the fluency homework directions. — They are the same as last year.
Students are required to practice reading the passage as well as complete the comprehension questions over the course of the week. Like other homework assignments, this will be due Monday.
Science: Energy!
Social Studies: Communities.
Religion: Ways in which we can pray.
Stay tuned for more info as the weeks roll forward.
All the Best,
Ms. Espinosa
