Hello 3rd Grade Families,
Our very first “Intermediate Centers” were a hit! We look forward to a year of adventure with the 4th and 5th graders.
This week in class…
Math: Continue to practice addition and subtraction with regrouping. In class, we are reviewing subtraction across zeroes. The Unit 2 Test is currently scheduled for next Thursday.
For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Skills…
P.1 Rounding – nearest 10 or 100
P.6 Estimate Sums up to 1,000
P.8 Estimate Differences up to 1,000
Reading: The class continues to work on a variety of reading skills in our leveled groups.
This week, try and practice making predictions throughout the reading process. While students are often familiar with this skill, many times they are not used to giving support on how they came about that prediction. Focus on this follow-up as you read this week. Part 1 is making the prediction. Part 2, and quite possibly the most important part, is being able to say what “clues” from the text lead to that prediction. This week’s Parent Pipeline will help you reinforce this skill at home. Click here to download.

Spelling: Our next spelling test will be on Friday. As you study at home, I suggest focusing on the sounds each word makes and using that to help determine the pattern. Looking ahead into the near future, our goal is to begin introducing spelling words that were not on the week’s list but still follow the same patterns. This is the true test of whether each child has mastered a particular spelling feature.
Vocabulary: We continue with the plan of finishing Unit 2 next Friday.
Grammar: We will have our very first grammar quiz on Thursday. It will cover lessons 44 and 47, both of which have been covered at length in class. These are key 3rd grade standards, so try and set aside a minute to review before then.
Remember to take advantage of the grammar workshop website for additional practice and review. Your child is welcome to take home his/her grammar book in order to see the Access Code. This is needed in order to establish your account.
Science: This week we finish up our unit on types of energy and move on to how energy travels.
Social Studies: The class will continue working to locate ourselves on the globe, making distinctions between continents/countries/states/cities & streets.
Religion: We plan to continue with Chapter: 24 God’s Family Celebrates the Eucharist. At present, the class is working on designing their own monstrance!
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
