Hello 3rd Grade Families!
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend, making time to rest up and have a little fun too. I’m already looking forward to meeting many happy grandparents on Friday. All guests should plan to meet us in the church for 8:30 mass.
Math: We will continue Chapter 1 reviewing skills taught and games introduced in previous grades. This week we will cover lessons 1.9-1.11. At this point, the Chapter 1 Test is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, September 14th.
For IXL Math homework, students should complete the following Third Grade skills:
D.1 Subtract Two Numbers Up to 3 Digits
C.1 Add Two Numbers Up to 3 Digits
Note: Just like the reading logs and fluency, all skills should be complete by next Tuesday.
Language Arts:
Reading: Reading Logs and fluency passages are going home today as is our routine. Just like last week, they should come back on Tuesday inside the reading folder. Each student should be reading a minimum of 100 minutes per week. Of course, those minutes can be added and divided across the week in any way that works for you.
Spelling: Next week we begin Words Their Way, a developmental approach to spelling instruction. On Monday, your child will go home with spelling words written in the planner as well as a label indicating which “Sort” (list of spelling words) he/he is on. Use the Sort # as a guide when you log onto SpellingCity.com to practice. The site is also a great way to access your child’s spelling list.
Language: We will be taking some time to learn how to correctly write book titles. My hope is that this will transfer to reading logs. If you need a bit of a refresher, check out Unit 6, Lesson 44 on the Grammar Workshop website. Click here for the link.
Science: This week we will begin our first science unit! The class will start the year with physical science focusing on chemistry.
Social Studies: Students will begin a geography unit focusing on finding specific locations, starting with us! The unit will start with a review of the seven continents eventually making it to Ventura. If you’re looking to review at home, take some time to go over the difference between the state, county and city you live in.
Religion: We begin Chapter 1: God Calls Us with a discussion of the various families we belong to — immediate, extended, Christian, Catholic.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
