Dearest Third Grade Families,

Happy Easter! This is our last week before the holiday break. In class, we will work toward tying up as many loose ends as possible so that we can truly enjoy the time off.

Since this is a short week, we will not have reading logs, spelling, vocabulary or IXL math homework. Instead, prepare yourself for the coming holiday, enjoy the weather and take some time to review our class curriculum.

This week we’ll be studying the following:

Math: The class will continue Unit 8 (Fractions) with some fun activities and a bit from lessons 8.4 and 8.5. During the break, please remember to continue practicing those multiplication and division Goals. My hope is for every student to make it through Goal 8 by June.

Reading: The class started a new read-aloud, the Newbery Award winning The Year of Billy Miller. We will continue to read and discuss in leveled groups as well.

English: The Unit 4 Grammar test is Wednesday. Unit 4 is all about adjectives and adverbs, so please take some time to review. Of course, the Grammar Workshop website is always a great place to start. However, students may take their books home to study if that is any more convenient.

Science: Our Chapter 5 Test will take place this Thursday. Students may choose to take home to their textbooks as well as their science notebooks to review so long as they return both each day for classroom use.

Social Studies: We will learn about the lives of some influential Californians including: Cesar Chavez, Dr. Jonas Salk and Sally Ride among others.

Religion: The class will focus on Lent and Holy Week. The living Stations of the Cross will be in the Church Wednesday at 2:00. All are welcome to join us.

Happy Easter!

Mrs. Espinosa
