Dear Third Grade Families,
I can’t believe we’re already into our first week of school! It has been a joy getting to know your children and I think we have a very good year ahead of us.
Today we took home our first Homework assignments. In your child’s homework folder, you found a reading log as well as directions for a fun project. Reading logs go home every week. Students are to read a book of their choice for a minimum of 20 minutes each night. Of course, students who find themselves in the middle of a great book are always welcome to read more. As for our small project, as we begin our first writing genre in the classroom, students are to personalize their Writer’s Workshop notebooks. Students have a lot of freedom in this. Have fun and make the notebook your own as we’ll be using it all year long.
This week, we will also begin Accelerated Math. As mentioned earlier, we will first begin this in class until we have the routines down and then it will begin going home for homework. You can expect to see this the first week of September. In the mean time, I will be sending home corrected Accelerated Math work beginning next Tuesday.
This week we will begin music and P.E. classes. From now on, please send your child to school wearing his/her P.E. uniform on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In third grade, students are also welcome to bring water bottles to class. I only ask that you: 1) write your child’s name somewhere on the water bottle (you’d be amazed at how many students have similar ones), and 2) arrange a schedule with your child for taking this home and cleaning it on a regular basis. Please also remind your child that these are not to be shared with friends.
Have a great week!
Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
