Dear Third Grade Families,
Welcome back! I hope all of our third graders had time to rest, play and prepare themselves for the home stretch of the 2010-2011 school year. The month of May promises to be a busy one packed with lots of enriching activities and experiences.
First thing Tuesday morning our class will be meeting with Father Bill for a slow-motion mass. Our school has made a commitment to better understanding the parts of the mass and so each class has participated individually in this exercise. This will be a great opportunity for students to ask questions and learn more about the rituals of mass as well as our Church. In more religion news, this Wednesday our school will meet for the May crowning and living rosary at 1:45. Our class has spent a lot of time learning about the rosary this year, so we will surely make the most of this. As always, families are welcome.
Tuesday is also our weekly library day. Many students checked out chapter books to read over the break. Please remind your sons and daughters to bring both of their books so that new ones may be checked out.
Both this week and next, our class will be collecting non-perishable foods to donate to our local Food Share pantry. Fifth grade is planning a trip very soon and we would like to send them with as much as possible to share with local hungry families. Please make an effort to send your child to class with at least one (or more!) boxes of pasta, cans of food, bags of rice or anything else that we can send with our fifth grade friends. I’m certain that it will be much appreciated.
Next Wednesday is our field trip to the Underwood Family farms. Here, our students will enjoy lessons on farming and foods followed by a strawberry and veggie picking tour. Although I will provide more detailed information in next week’s newsletter, look for the permission slips in this Tuesday’s work packet.
Again, I hope everyone enjoyed the break and I look forward to seeing you all bright and early tomorrow morning.
Best,
Mrs. Espinosa
