Dear Second Grade Families,

We have a busy week ahead.  On Thursday, we have Free Dress and $1.00 per tattoo.  Please read the school newsletter which will provide dress attire for Thursday and additional information on tattoos.    We will attend Mass at 8;30 a.m. on Friday followed by the saint presentations and parade as it is All Saints day!  Remember to have a dress rehearsal at home with your child’s saint costume before Friday. They must be able to walk and kneel with their costumes.  They must wear their uniform underneath their saint costume.

This is our academic overview for this week.

Homework:  This week we will have fluency, reading log and ixl (A..6/F.1/F.2) 15 minutes.  Homework will now be due on Monday.  There is no spelling this week.  Please keep practicing saint report.

Children will go home with a password on Tuesday for Everyday Math.  This will help you see what we are learning in class.  Look over 2.6-2.9 this week.  You may do any of the home links for extra support.  This is not required but highly recommended.

Language Arts:

This week we will be reviewing reading and phonics skills. We will continue practicing comprehension strategies such as story mapping, inferences and working on text to self.  We will be reading Stellaluna, Big Pumpkin and other fun read alouds this week.

Writing:  We will begin writing a letter to the families that have our Flat Person and continue our writer’s workshop.  We will learn to write command sentences.

Spelling/Phonics:  We will continue reviewing words with digraphs (ch, sh, th, wh). We will be reviewing words ending with double consonants.  Open/Closed syllables will be examined this week.

Math:  We will review fast facts, number grid, subtraction and addition number stories.  We will learn about comparing ounces and pounds.

Religion: We continue learning about each others saints.  Your child should have their presentation memorized.  We will take our Unit 1 test on Wednesday.

Social Studies/Science: Community Jobs/Animal Life Cycle (Frog, Chicken)
