Hello Second Grade Families,

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter vacation among family and friends. The students came back to class yesterday morning rested and ready for this home stretch in the school year.

This week in class, we will be working to build our momentum up again.

Math: We will begin the week with a review of Unit 8 content covered before the break. In the later half of the week, we will finish up Fractions in Number Stories before taking the unit test on Friday. If you’d like a review packet, please let me know and I’d be happy to send one home.

For IXL math homework, please complete the following skills:

W.8 Fractions of a group

W.10 Fractions of a whole: word problems

W.11 Fractions of a group: word problems

Reading: In Reader’s Workshop, we will be working on some basic comprehension skills including strategies for effective retelling and identifying main ideas.

Word Work: We will continue with the sorts from last week, so students will not have any new words. Spelling tests will be on Friday.

Writing: This week we will turn our attention to some basic editing skills before moving on to our next unit: “Writing about Reading”. In preparation, take some time this week to talk with your child about a character that he or she especially loves and why.

Science: The class will continue our unit on erosion and the planet’s surface as we make our way through the Earth science strand. We will also spend some time in the lab on a special project!

Religion: This week we will begin Chapter 23: We are One in the Church. We will discuss everyone’s part in sharing God’s love.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
