Dear Parents,                   March 24, 2014

Our reading strategy this week is “evaluating”.  The comprehension skill that will help us in evaluating is topic, main idea, details, and summarizing.  After reading a selection, being able to identify the topic of the selection, the main ideas and the details will help us in evaluating whether we enjoyed the selection.  Our phonics focus this week is the /ou/ sound spelled with ou as in round or ow as in owl.  Our grammar focus this week is action words (verbs) in the present tense.  Our spelling words this week, are from unit 25.  These words review long vowels sounds with the CVCe pattern.

We are continuing our chapter in math dealing with developing our fact power. We will be focusing on fact families and different ways to show a number (name-collection).

In religion, will be working on our Family Life Series lesson 9: More Families. We will also continue our work with our Kind Action Cross

In Social Studies this week we will continue on our new unit – In and Around the Land – by discussing houses and pictographs.

In Science we will continue work on the weather. We will be wrapping up our chapter on weather with a test next week – only to begin our next chapter on Seasons in a few weeks!
