Week of February 21-24, 2012

Dear Second Grade Families,

Hope the long weekend was an enjoyable one. This week again will be a short week with lots to do.

THANK YOU for all the Valentine treats and good wishes. Thank you also to the room moms and volunteers who helped make our celebration fun.

FLAT PEOPLE UPDATE: We are still receiving some mail from our flat people hosts and a flat people are returning to Sacred Heart and will be returned to their owner after their presence at the school fair. The second part of the flat person project is coming home today. Just a reminder that as much mail as possible needs to be neatly displayed on the board. Then any leftovers can be mounted in a thin binder. Thank you for your guidance with this. This completed project can come to school on Monday, March 5, or Tuesday, March 6. School Fair is Wednesday,March 7.

RELIGION: The season of Lent begins this week; Reconciliation preparation continues. Vocabulary for this week: sin, temptation, accident, mistake, sorry, forgiveness, choices.

READING: “JALAPENO BAGELS” will be the new story for this week; For International Day at school, Pablo wants to bring something that reflects the culture of both of his parents. We will read for comprehension and fluency.

SPELLING: Unit 23, the vowel sound on “cow” .  Don’t forget to go to spellingcity.com to practice spelling words.

LANGUAGE ARTS: Vocabulary development; contractions and 2 syllable words Dictionary work; Proper sentence formation: Creative writing; cursive writing exercises.

MATH: Adding and subtracting facts to 20; Addition of 2 digit numbers with and without regrouping. Keep working on telling time and counting money.
