Dear Second Grade Families,

Quack! Quack! We’re back! Hope everyone had a blessed Easter and a great week off spending time with family and friends. We have many things to do as we memorize poems and get ready for First Holy Communion (Saturday, May 5).
With First Holy Communion quickly approaching, we will not be going to confession as a class. If your child would like to go to confession or if you think it is necessary, please refer to the Church bulletin and go as a family. Also, at First Communion, the children will be receiving only the Body of Christ. If you wish them to receive the Blood of Christ, they may do this with you at another mass that you attend as a family, after you have discussed this with them and they have tasted wine.

IN THE CLASSROOM…
RELIGION: The events of Jesus after the Resurrection; we are getting ready for First Holy Communion beginning with the story of how Jesus fed the people and promised living bread, the gift of Himself.
READING: We are beginning Theme 6 titled TALENT SHOW. The first story is “The Art Lesson” by Tomie dePaola. We will be reading for fluency and comprehension.
SPELLING: Unit 29, words ending with ‘er’.
LANGUAGE ARTS: creative writing; ABC order; Dictionary and Thesaurus work; poetry; Spring language arts; more cursive handwriting.
MATH: Adding and subtracting facts to 20; addition with regrouping; subtraction with and without regrouping. Keep helping your children with life skills as counting money and telling time on an analog clock
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES: Earth Day/Week; Using a globe, and looking at the land and where our food comes from.

Have a good week. Please remember Friday will be a noon dismissal as the teachers have a meeting.
