Hello Second Grade Families,

It was a pleasure seeing so many parents and family members Friday morning. What a great kick-off to Catholic Schools Week. This week we will celebrate Staff Appreciation day, Student Appreciation Day and Parish Appreciation Day. We are all blessed to have each other!

Math: This week we will wrap up Unit 5 ~ 2D and 3D shapes with a study of pyramids and cones followed by line symmetry. Our unit test is tentatively scheduled for next Tuesday.

This week’s IXL Homework is…

U1. Name the 3D shape

U.3 Count vertices, edges and faces

T. 7 Symmetry

Reading: In Reader’s Workshop, the class will begin to wrap up our unit on non-fiction reading. We will do some comparing and contrasting by finding and talking about what is the same and what is different across texts before students practice retelling tops (as opposed to just books). Next week we will celebrate our completion of the unit by making presentations on non-fiction topics of our choice.

Word Work: The students will get new words on Monday. Our next spelling test is scheduled for Friday.

Writing & Science: This week we will take some time to self-assess and make plans as we wrap up the first bend in our unit. As a sneak peak, our next piece will be all about teaching others about our scientific discoveries.

Religion: We move on to Chapter 16: We celebrate God’s Love as we prepare for the Sacraments.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
