teddybearsThis Wednesday is Teddy Bear Day. We encourage every student to bring a new stuffed animal to school, which Monsignor Fleming will bring back to Los Angeles as part of our donations to the Adopt-a-Family program. We will attend Mass tomorrow, celebrating the feast of the Immaculate Conception. Progress Reports go home on Tuesday. We have an early dismissal for conferences on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. I look forward to sitting down with you at that time to discuss your child’s progress. Please call Mrs. Hahn if you need to change your conference time.

What we are working on this week

Religion: We celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation today (Monday); we continue our study of chapter 10, focusing upon the First Commandment.

Math: We continue our study of decimals in Unit 4. Students need to complete ixL skills U1, U2 and U3 by next Monday.

Spelling: I am conducting a classroom Spelling Bee in order to select the top five spellers for our school Spelling Bee competition, which will be held on January 8th. As a class, we are working on Unit 15 words; the book pages need to be completed by Friday, and I plan to have a test on these words on Friday.

Grammar: We continue Unit 3, which focuses upon verbs.

Vocabulary: This week we begin our study of Unit 8 words.

Reading: Everyone continues to read book selections at their reading level. Last week we introduced a new comprehension strategy: Predict what will happen and us the text to confirm. Click here to access the Parent Pipeline. parent make:adjust predictions  The reading log will be due next Monday (click here for a copy reading log nouns verbs) and Fluency Homework #14  will be due then as well.

Social Studies: This week we continue learning about the adventures of different explorers who came to California. In preparation for the School Fair and our next big writing project, I need to know which mission each child has chosen to learn about.

Science: We are learning about energy in ecosystems.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
