I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. I did not send home a work packet today; one will be sent home next Tuesday. We are most grateful for all of the rain we have been receiving, but unfortunately, the storms predicted for this week have made it necessary to cancel our field trip this Friday. I will let you know once it has been rescheduled.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We continue discussing the first three commandments.

Math: We have started Unit 5, focusing mainly on multiplication. I would like students to complete ixL Math skills T 15, 16 and 17; this will be due next Monday.

Reading Workshop: We continue reading expository nonfiction selections, which includes science, history, etc. While biographies are nonfiction, I would like students to wait until later in the unit, when we will discuss and then read narrative nonfiction. Students are to complete a reading log and have it signed for all reading done at home (20-30 minutes per day). Click here for the reading log, which will be due next Tuesday.reading log

Writer’s Workshop: We continue our unit on Opinion/Essay writing.

Reading Fluency: It is fluency #19 this week; it will be due next Monday. Students will now receive a copy of the fluency homework on the first day of the school week; I will not be posting it on the website.

Spelling: This week and next we are studying Unit 17. As practice, students will be writing each word three times, as well as completing the book pages. The test will be next Thursday.

Vocabulary: We began our study of Unit 10 today; the test will be next Thursday.

Science: This week we focus on microorganisms. We will have a test on chapter 3 next week.

Social Studies: We are learning about mission life in California. We will have a test on explorers and missions next week.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
