We are down to the final two weeks of the first trimester, which ends on November 18th. We are busy finishing our first units in both Reading and Writing Workshop; we are ready for another Grammar test this week and will be doing another Math Unit test before the end of the trimester. We will also be doing a chapter test in Science before the 18th.

We have a free dress this Wednesday, with the proceeds going to Adopt-a-Family. We are also collecting your extra Halloween candy, which will be added to our donations of teddy bears in early December.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

NO SPELLING THIS WEEK!

Religion: We are finishing chapter 7, and will begin our study of the Ten Commandments with chapter 8.

Math: We will finish Unit 3 shortly and have a test next week. Students need to complete ixL Math skills O 4, 5 and 6, focusing on time zones and elapsed time, by next Monday.

Reading Workshop: It is important that your child is reading a book at his/her reading level, for about 20-30 minutes every day. Please sign the reading log for any reading done at home. Click here for a copy of the reading log. reading log As for strategies, we are now focused on interpretation: what are the life lessons the author is sharing? What is the overall theme of the book I am reading?

Reading Fluency: Students should complete fluency homework #12. This will be due next Monday.

Writer’s Workshop: We are editing our stories and beginning final drafts!

Vocabulary: We continue our study of Unit 6. The test will be on Thursday.

Grammar: We are doing review work from Unit 2; the test is on Wednesday.

Social Studies: We continue our study of early Native Americans in CA, learning in greater detail about the early peoples in each of the four regions.

Science: We are learning about adaptations that help organisms survive.
