HAPPY HALLOWEEN! We are bringing home pumpkin drawings today. In addition, be sure to check out the 4th grade haikus, posted on the website today. We will be going to Mass tomorrow in celebration of All Saints’ Day, and on Friday after Mass we will be celebrating the Saints Parade after Mass. Friday is a half-day.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We are finishing chapter 6, and continue with chapter 7, We Worship God.

Math: We continue Unit 3. We have learned how to solve a variety of elapsed time problems. Students have fact triangles, which they can use to study their basic multiplication facts, and we are also doing timed fact tests in class to build up proficiency. Students need to complete ixL Math skills D 4, E 1 and E 2 by next Monday.

Reading Workshop: It is important that your child be reading for 20-30 minutes each evening. Please sign the reading log for any reading done at home. As for strategies, we have been focused on characterization, but now turn our attention to other story elements, such as setting, mood and theme. Click here for the reading log. reading-log

Reading Fluency: Students should complete fluency homework #11. This will be due next Monday.

Writer’s Workshop: We continue revising and editing our stories.

Spelling: We have started our study of Unit 10; the test will be on Friday.

Vocabulary: We begin our study of Unit 6. The test will be next Thursday.

Grammar: We finish our study of nouns, focusing this week on possessive nouns. We will have the unit 2 test next week.

Social Studies: We continue our study of early Native Americans in CA; we will be learning in greater detail about the early peoples in each of the four regions.

Science: Chapter 2 focuses upon interactions of organisms within an ecosystem.

Thanking you for your continuing support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
