Dear Parents,                                              April 2, 2012

We will spend this short week in review of our past theme and spelling words.  However, we will continue work on our writer’s workshop on why school is a great place.

We continue working with money in math as well as, fact practice and word problems.  Please practice counting coins at home.  We have learned the penny, the nickel, and the dime. This week we will be learning the quarter! Many children find it difficult to switch counting from tens to fives and/or ones.  We know how to count by tens or fives by heart but when applying it to actual coins – we loose count.  We also loose track when switching in the middle (for example, counting by tens to 20 and then switch to counting nickels.)

Our study of the Passion of Jesus is coming to an end with our reading of Benjamin’s Box.  The children really seemed to learn quite a bit and looked forward to finding something new in their box everyday.  I hope that you take some quiet time and let them show you each piece and let them retell the most beautiful story in our Catholic faith.  I pray that they realize that their box does indeed hold a “treasure”.

We continue with our study of matter in science and our study of our world near and far in social studies.

Announcements for the week:

  • Please remind your student to bring their library book on Tuesday so that they may check out another one before the break.
  • We will be going to mass on Wednesday morning.
  • Thursday is a noon dismissal day and the start of our Easter vacation.  Please remember to read, read, and read some more, do a little math practice (count coins too!) and remember that all of our spelling words remain posted to spellingcity.com.  Don’t forget to play the games!

Most of all, remember to enjoy being with each other, with family and friends.  I wish all of you a Blessed Easter and a restful vacation.

Miss. Manning
