Dearest Third Grade Families,

This being the last week of Trimester 2, the class will be working toward tying up any loose ends and closing out a couple units along the way.

This week we’ll be studying the following:

Math: The class will wrap up Unit 6 (Geometry) covering lessons with a CCSS focused review followed by the Unit 6 test on Tuesday. As always, I would encourage you to follow along with us by completing the “Home Links” at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

Likewise, we continue to practice our multiplication and division facts. Take a look in your child’s planner for the latest progress report and individual goal. As a reminder, this is part of the nightly homework.

For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade skills:

F5: Multiply by 4

H9: Divide by 9

H3: Divide by 3

Reading & Writing: Out with the old and in with the new! Click here to download the new Reading Log. The class will continue with persuasive pre-writing for individual essays and practicing with a shared writing exercise.

English: The class will finish the Unit 3 test on Monday. Later in the week, we will review the basics of adjectives and adverbs.

Spelling: Click here to download this week’s spelling words and pattern/principle. Don’t forget that the words for every unit are also available on www.spellingcity.com. Here you can find fun games and an interactive online practice test.

Vocabulary: This week we will finish Unit 13. Our next vocabulary quiz will be this Friday. As a reminder, all words as well as activities and a practice quiz can be found at the Vocabulary Workshop website.

Science: We will finish Chapter 4, the Solar System, focusing on the larger concepts: what makes an outer planet and how is that different from an inner planet, how stars are different from planets and moons, what is the sun’s role in the solar system, etc.

The Chapter test has been pushed back a couple of days to Friday, March 14th giving everyone extra time to study.

Social Studies: The students will continue to learn about the Branches of Government.

Religion: We will continue Chapter 12, “Jesus Revealed the Kingdom of God.” On Wednesday, we will attend our first Stations of the Cross for this Lenten season. We will be in the Church at 2:00 where all are welcome to attend.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Espinosa
