Dear Parents,                          October 22, 2012

This week, our reading strategy is “evaluate”.  After reading a story, we think back on what we read and learned to decide if we like or dislike the story and why. The comprehension skill that will help us with this reading strategy is defining topic, main idea, and details within our stories. Once we can define these, we can use them to help us evaluate the story.  Our phonics focus this week is double final consonants (pull, stuff, mass etc.), review of the short sound of /a/ and plurals with –s. Our grammar focus continues to be what makes a sentence a sentence.  This week, our spelling words are from unit 16 – double final consonants.

We are in the middle of chapter 3 in math.  Chapter 3 has us learning different ways to add to/from 10.

In religion, we are continuing to get ready for the Saints Parade. A copy of what your child will need to memorize by November 2nd will be sent home early in the week.

In science we are continuing our study of animals through lessons on nocturnal animals.

In social studies we are learning how to read addresses and a timeline.

Sadly, two of our class pets (Baby Red Eye and Goldie) passed away. We are crossing our fingers that Lexie remains with us for a bit longer.

Reminders for the week:

  • Please remind your child to bring their library book to school Tuesday so that they may check out a new one.
  • It is All About…Christopher!
  • Friday is a half-day as teachers have a staff meeting!

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  Have a wonderful week!

Miss Manning
