Dear Parents,                          November 24, 2013

We have much to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving week and at the top of my list is YOU!  Thank you for all your support and for sharing your children with me.  They make me smile everyday!

This is a very short week and therefore we will concentrate on the “Thanksgiving” theme in language arts and social studies.  We will review our spelling units through the playing of “Sparkle” and therefore will not have the usual spelling homework (or test).

Within Social Studies this week, First Grade will be performing our Readers’ Theatre play about the First Thanksgiving. The play is not memorized but instead read from a script. We will wear simple costume pieces that we made. Our performance will be held Wednesday, November 27th at 11:15 in our classroom. Our sixth grade buddies will be attending and parents are welcome to attend as well. If your child will not be present for class on Wednesday please let me know as soon as possible as every student has a speaking part and we will need to rearrange if necessary.

We will be taking our social studies test this week. In math we will spend the week in review. In science we will be wrapping up our lesson on nocturnal animals and spend some time taking a closer look at what we discovered in our owl pellets last week. In religion we will work on a special writing prompt about giving thanks.

Reminders for the week:

  • Please remind your child to bring their library book to school Tuesday so that they may check out a new one.
  • Please remember to support St. Vincent de Paul with your non perishable items if possible.
  • Wednesday is a $1 free dress day.
  • Wednesday is a noon dismissal with Thanksgiving mass at 8:30 – Please join us if your schedule permits.
  • No school on Thursday or Friday.
  • Please be aware that Teddy Bear Day is December 2nd (the Monday we return from Thanksgiving break)!!

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  Have a Blessed Thanksgiving with family and friends.

~Ms. Manning
