Dear Second Grade Parents,

It’s February already!!!! We will have our Mass this week on Thursday since we have Friday off.  We have so many things to do this week. Thank you to those who volunteered for next week on Friday (we have enough volunteers).  I will send out an email with our future Primary Center days.

I am looking for a two volunteers who need service hours.  I have some felt material that needs to be glued onto a piece of wood. Please send me an email if you are available.  I will send it home with a sample.

Take a Peek at our Week:

Homework:  Fluency, Reading Log and IXL (M.4, M.5)  Remember 20 minutes!!!!

FLAT PERSON UPDATE… By the end of this week or beginning of next, we should start seeing some of our Flat Students return.  They should be back to us before next Wednesday.  Please call or email the Host family to give them a friendly reminder to return your Flat Child.  We sent our letters two weeks ago along with a letter from me requesting the return (a list of items your child should have received).  As soon as our Flat People begin to return, I will send the assignment for this project so you may begin preparing for the School Fair this month.

RELIGION: We will continue with the memorization of the Act of Contrition.  We will learn about the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit manifests peace, love and joy within us.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

READING:   We will be beginning our new Theme 4.  The theme is about Amazing Animals.  We will begin the unit by reading Officer Buckle & Gloria.  Our strategy focus will be to monitor and clarify.  Monitor/Clarify means stopping now and then to make sure you understand what you have already read. We have also started leveled reading during our reading groups.

We will continue our read aloud , Boxcar Children.  This week we will summarize what we have read so far.

SPELLING/PHONICS: Unit 18 ; This is a review unit.   There will NOT be a spelling test this week.

sorting words with r- controlled vowels

WRITING: We are all in different stages of our writing (narrative).  Some students are still working on their first draft; others are on editing, rewriting, and publishing.

MATH: This week we will continue with chapter 4.  Our goal is to do 4.3-4.5.  We continue working on temperature and two digit addition. Please continue with making change with money at home.  Example:  The toy cost 68 cents.  If you give the cashier $1.00, how much will your change be?

SCIENCE: Last week we made a pulley in our lab.  The kids had a blast.  This week we continue with motion/force.  We will be making a landing pad for our egg (gravity).
