Dear Parents,                                                     November 8, 2010

What a job our “little saints” did for the Saints Parade!  We certainly enjoyed the day – not only were we excited about the Saint Parade but our class also reached 100 points for following the classroom rules and we enjoyed a small treat.

We will be finishing up theme 3 in our reading series this week.  Our reading strategy is “questioning”.  Before reading a story, we look at the cover, the title and the pictures and make a prediction about what the story will be about.  While making our predictions, we ask ourselves questions.  The comprehension skill that will help us with this reading strategy is categorizing.  Grouping things together will help us answer our questions and help us understand the story.  Our phonics focus this week is words with ‘r’ clusters and contractions with ‘s.  Our grammar focus this week will concentrate on the action part of sentences.  This week, our spelling words are from unit 13 – clusters with r.  We continue with learning different strategies for adding and subtracting in math.  In religion, we are learning the different types of prayers and in science we continue with our study of animals.

Please remind your child to bring their library book to school tomorrow so that they may check out a new one.

Water bottle sales continue on Tuesday and Thursday.  Thank you for your support!

Tomorrow is the last day to order doughnuts for Friday delivery.  The cost is $1.00 and the proceeds go to our adopt-a-family mission project.

There is no school on Thursday for Veterans Day so therefore our spelling test will be on Friday.

First Grade is going on a field trip!  We are going to the Abundant Table on Thursday, November 18th.  The Abundant Table is an organic farm in Oxnard where we will review the parts of plants, harvest, and eat the various plant parts.  The cost is $9.40 per child.  The permission slips and envelopes for money will be coming home today.  Please return them to school as soon as possible.

It is All About…Alexis this week.  Congratulations!

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  Have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Manning
