FIRST GRADE NEWSLETTER

NOTE FROM MRS. VAZQUEZ:

SHARE DAY, DODGER DAY, and RASHEED the lion all in one week!!! Take a look below to find out more.

HOMEWORK

A little less homework this week, so we can enjoy a little baseball or family time.

  • Fluency Homework only!
  • NO Reading Log or IXL
  • Read for fun. Kids will take books from the class to enjoy at home
  • Spelling:  We will keep the same words/pictures for this week and next week.  The kids WILL NOT have a spelling test this week.  It will be for next THURSDAY.
  • SAINT information was sent home on Monday.  Students must have this memorized by Monday. Most kids have them memorized.  We’ve talked about looking at the audience (eye contact) and speaking slowly and clearly.   I hope the costumes are coming along.  Please send me an email if you have any questions.

A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

Language Arts:

Who’s RASHEED?  It’s a lion who visits our class to keep us motivated on learning our phonics skills. 🙂  Ask your child about him.

We are working on reading our environment. Please make sure to read signs as you are driving to school.

In writing, students continue writing about their small moments.  We are focusing making sure our word wall words are spelled correctly such as have, was, like, they and when.  We are practicing writing sentences using a capital letter to begin and adding a punctuation mark at the end.

Math: Skip counting and identifying coins.

Religion: We are identifying specific times of prayer.

Science:  We will be doing a mini lesson on spiders.

Social Studies:  We are learning about our community and neighborhoods.

REMINDERS

  • Remember PE uniforms on Tuesday and Thursday! Please make sure that long hair is pulled back and all students are wearing tennis shoes that they can tie themselves..
  • Conferences still continue for the next two weeks.
  • Wednesday:  Wear Blue/Grey/White to support our Dodgers.
  • Halloween tattoo pre-sale begins! $1 tattoos that will be passed out on Halloween.  You may purchase as many tattoos but only one can be worn and the rest will be sent home.
  • Friday:  Full Day

SHARE DAY:  Students are allowed to bring only ONE item from home to share this week.  I am randomly selecting students to share during a 15 minute time slot in our day.  I’ve asked students to keep their item in their backpacks for the day until it’s time to share.

Please send me an email with any questions.

Blessings,

Mrs. Perez-Vazquez
