Dear Second Grade Families,

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday and weekend.  This week will be parent teacher conferences.  Dismissal for students on December 4th-6th will be at 11:30 a.m. Children will receive their report cards on Tuesday. I look forward to our conference this week.

Here are a few reminders of activities this week as well as a little change with homework:

Flat People update: We are receiving mail almost daily. Ask your child if he/she has received mail. You may need to make a reminder phone call. Our goal will be to write a letter this week and send a Christmas Card the week of December 16th.  Please send your child with two stamps by Friday and a Christmas Card by December 12th.

FLUENCY

RELIGION:  Religion:  We will review the first three commandment (How we show our love to God) and the other 7 are ways to show love to one another.  Chapter 6 quiz this week.  We will discuss Advent.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Reading:  We will begin  “ A Trip to the Firehouse.”  Our focus is identifying the main ideas and details.  We will continue reviewing syllables, ABC order, vowel pairs (ai, ay), compound words, and reviewing digraphs (sh, th, wh, ch, tch).

We will have Captain Romero visit our school on Tuesday.  This will conclude our week with the story “A Trip to the Firehouse”.  The children cannot wait!

Read Aloud: BoxCar Children…We will discuss vocabulary and comprehension questions as we finish each chapter.  We will begin chapter 3  this week.

Writing:  This week we will focus on proper/common noun, capitalization, punctuation.  We will writing a letter to Santa and to our flat host family.

MATH:  We will work on Unit 3 lessons 2-4 this week.  Our focus will be money and time.

SCIENCE:  We will begin our new unit on Motion/Force

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Maps and Globes
