Dear 2nd Grade Parents,
Thank you to all the parents and grandparents that helped make our Primary Centers successful. Our class was busy last week researching about their Saints in class, school library and at home. All of the Saint reports are due on Tuesday. We will have our $1.00 free dress on Wednesday, October 17th. Friday will be a full day schedule which will include an activity with our families in the afternoon.
A Look into our Week:
Homework & Reading Log: Fluency reading will be sent home for the last time via Homework Folder. You will find the fluency reading added to the website every Monday along with your reading log and common core homework. The children have been showing so much growth in their fluency. It is great to see their number of words per minute increase as the week ends. This daily practice will help with accuracy, fluency & comprehension. Thank you for taking the extra minute of your time to help support your child’s reading.
Language Arts: We will finish up the story, Exploring Parks with Ranger Dockett, in our anthology. We will continue identifying fact & opinion in our readings. We will read, If you Give a Mouse a Cookie & If you Give a Pig a pancake.
Phonics: long o, u, and e. consonants
Spelling Unit 8: double final consonant words
Vocabulary Skill: Antonyms; Reviewing Synonyms
Grammar Skills: Question & Commands
Religion: Saint’s reports are due on Tuesday. I am looking forward to reading all the reports. The children will be reading their report to the class beginning on Tuesday. Remember to keep a copy of your child’s report at home so they may memorize their presentation for November 2nd. It should only be 5 sentences total to memorize. We will continue learning about the first three commandments.
Math: We will have our chapter 1 test this week. Chapter 2 begins with learning about place value (tens),
Science: We will be ending our Plant Life Cycle with a test on Wednesday. We will begin our Animal Life Cycle.
